Committee Descriptions

NAREIT Committees

    Accounting Committee: This Committee examines all financial standards (FASB, IASB, and SEC) affecting commercial real estate. Committee members receive regular updates of financial standards developments. Members may participate on task forces formed to address specific issues that often result in formal submissions to policy-makers, e.g. discontinued operations and fair value reporting. Members meet at REITWise: NAREIT’s Law, Accounting & Finance Conference, and at REITWorld: NAREIT’s Annual Convention for All Things REIT.
    Government Relations Committee: This Committee evaluates legislative and regulatory issues affecting REITs and commercial real estate, with a focus on federal income tax issues. Members may participate on task forces formed to address specific issues that often result in formal submissions to policy-makers, e.g. foreign currency gains and excess inclusion income. Members meet at REITWise: NAREIT’s Law, Accounting & Finance Conference, and at REITWorld: NAREIT’s Annual Convention for All Things REIT.
      State and Local Tax Subcommittee: This Subcommittee evaluates developments affecting REITs in the state and local arena. Members doing business in a state that proposes a law change may collectively join a NAREIT Coalition to oppose such legislation, e.g. in California, Texas, Montana, Tennessee. Members receive State and Local Tax Policy Bulletins. Members meet at REITWise: NAREIT’s Law, Accounting & Finance Conference.
    Insurance Committee: This Committee examines market developments impacting insurance issues. Members meet at REITWise: NAREIT’s Law, Accounting & Finance Conference, and Corporate Member risk managers are invited to participate in a risk management seminar that occurs every September as part of the Senior Financial Officers workshop.
