A survey of investment professionals ranked REIT CEOs Richard Clark and David Simon among the top chief executives in the United States.
Clark, president and CEO of Brookfield Properties Corporation (NYSE: BPO), and Simon, chairman and CEO of Simon Property Group (NYSE: SPG), made the list of 24 U.S. "TopGun" CEOs compiled by consulting firm Brendan Wood International (BWI). A panel of 2,500 professional asset managers selected the winners from a group of 750 companies.
"Richard Clark is a top CEO because he has made some great acquisitions and has developed and stuck to a very focused strategy. He has attracted some good people to work with him, and they have been very loyal and diligent throughout the crisis," BWI said.
BWI noted Simon's "discipline" during the economic downturn and its positive impact on his company's performance.
"David Simon's company has great depth of talented people. Anyone you meet at that organization is truly remarkable," BWI said. "He also orchestrated his company well in terms of how he allocated capital, his balance sheet, the real estate he bought."
