This edition of the NAREIT Podcast explores the topic of "uncertainty" and its application in the language of business. Bloomberg View columnist Caroline Baum joins NAREIT editorial director Allen Kenney for an interview to discuss her views on the overuse of uncertainty as a driver of business strategy and public policy.
Baum noted that she feels the current economic climate "does not encourage entrepreneurship." However, she said that while uncertainty is a given in any economic environment, it tends to become a fallback talking point during economic downturns.
"Just think about it. When times are good, does anybody talk about uncertainty?" Baum asked. "There's always uncertainty in this world. Businesses may be pessimistic, they may be optimistic, but the future is never certain."
