In his opening statement at a Jan. 29 House Ways and Means Committee entitled, “Paving the Way for Funding and Financing Infrastructure Investments,” Ranking Member Kevin Brady (R-TX) stated that one method of attracting private capital into infrastructure would be to “explore how we can allow real estate investment trusts, [REITs], to invest in infrastructure.” The hearing was the latest by the Committee to consider a variety of approaches to finance the nation’s long overdue infrastructure needs.
“We believe REITs play a positive role in infrastructure today and look forward to engaging in the discussion about how REITs may play a larger role in the future,” stated Catherine Barré, Nareit executive vice president and general counsel.
