The National Real Estate Organizations (NREO), a coalition of 17 real estate groups that includes NAREIT, partnered with The Hill to sponsor policy forums at the Republican and Democratic National Conventions in July.

At the GOP convention in Cleveland, House Real Estate Caucus Co-Chair Mike Turner (R-OH) delivered keynote remarks. Jeffrey DeBoer, president and CEO of The Real Estate Roundtable, moderated a panel on real estate and the economy. Participants included Reps. James Renacci (R-OH) and Tom Reed (R-NY) and Ken Valach, the CEO of Trammel Crow Residential. Additionally, Rodrigo Lopez, executive chairman of Northmarq Capital, moderated a panel on liquidity issues affecting the industry with Reps. French Hill (R-AR) and Bill Huizenga (R-MI) and Ed Brady, president of Brady Homes.

Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD), co-chair of the Congressional Real Estate Caucus, delivered the keynote remarks at the DNC event in Philadelphia. DeBoer moderated a similar panel on real estate and the economy that included Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA) and Tom McGee, president and CEO of the International Council of Shopping Centers. The DNC program also featured a panel discussion on liquidity issues affecting the industry with Reps. Ed Perlmutter (D-CO) and John Delaney (D-MD); Cindy Clare, president of Kettler Management; and moderator David Stevens, the president and CEO of the Mortgage Bankers Association. Finally, the DNC event concluded with a discussion between Rep. Richard Neal (D-MA) and The Hill's Pete Schroeder.
