Financial Standards

Nareit’s recent webinar, Financial Standards Update, offered Nareit members an overview of key developments at the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Chris Drula, senior vice president of financial standards at Nareit, moderated the webinar, which featured Alex Braser, a partner and the New England real estate leader at Deloitte & Touche LLP, and Jamie Weisman, an audit partner in the asset management practice at KPMG.

Braser kicked-off the conversation with an overview of the FASB’s recent priorities and then discussed the current joint venture and disaggregation projects that are relevant to REITs and publicly traded real estate companies. Weisman followed with an update on both the PCAOB’s and SEC’s respective agendas. She discussed the PCAOB’s proposed amendments to audit standards related to noncompliance with laws and regulations, and what they could mean for REITs. Weisman also explained the SEC’s rulemaking process and highlighted recent proposals and rules, including the Commission’s final cyber risk governance rule and its highly anticipated climate disclosure rule. She closed her presentation by noting a few key SEC comment letter trends.

This educational webinar was open to Nareit members, who were able to earn 1.5 hours of CPE credit.
