Meredith Despins, NAREIT senior vice president for investment affairs and investor outreach, recently delivered a presentation in Toronto at a workshop hosted by Benefits and Pensions Monitor, one of Canada's leading publications for pension and retirement plan sponsors.
The workshop provided Canadian institutional investors with information on REITs, direct property investment, and other real estate investment strategies that pension funds may use to meet return objectives and satisfy their liabilities.
Despins’ presentation focused on the investment attributes of REITs and listed property companies. She also covered how recent FIRPTA reforms can benefit Canadian investors, including pension funds, as they seek to gain exposure to U.S. real estate through listed REITs.
The event was attended by nearly 100 Canadian pension funds, wealth management organizations, investment consulting firms and other investment management and advisory organizations.
