As part of an initiative to develop a better understanding of sustainability best practices for the REIT industry, NAREIT, together with the global outside consulting firm AccountAbility,  held a "Stakeholder Engagement" meeting of its corporate members in New York on Oct. 7.

Nearly 100 participants in the interactive meeting discussed key sustainability matters, including whether best practice-type sustainability guidelines are achievable and desirable for U.S. REITs in the public marketplace.

Seventy individuals representing 49 of NAREIT’s member companies attended the event, which was conducted in concert with consulting firm AccountAbility. Other participating organizations included the European Public Real Estate Association (EPRA), the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB), RealFoundations and the Institute for Market Transformation.
