Sourav Ghosh, senior vice president, enterprise analytics, at Host Hotels & Resorts, Inc. (NYSE: HST), participated in a video interview at Nareit’s REITwise: 2019 Law, Accounting & Finance Conference in San Antonio.
Ghosh discussed some of the things for REITs to consider regarding enterprise risk management (ERM). He noted that REITs should have a framework to assess and document risk and assign specific roles to individuals to monitor risk and validate effectiveness. The senior executive team and board of directors also need to be made aware of the risk environment, he said.
Ghosh also commented on steps REITs can take to mitigate exposure to cyberattacks.
Meanwhile, Ghosh said Host’s partnership with IBM to enhance predictive analytics allows the REIT to make better capital allocation decisions, “whether it’s from an investment perspective, from a disposition standpoint, or even when we’re investing capital for renovations.”
