REITs worldwide now have the opportunity to register to use the .REIT top-level domain name in their internet addresses instead of, or in addition to, the .com or other top-level domain names.

The .REIT domain registration page on the web site Register.REIT opened on Nov. 17 to provide an exclusive, 34-day registration window for those REITs that want to use the .REIT designation and have listed a trademark with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Trademark Clearing House (TMCH).

REITs that have listed a trademark with TMCH are encouraged to register it during the current window. On Dec. 21, the registration page on the Register.REIT site will open for general registration and eligible domain names will be available to qualifying REITs on a first-come, first-served basis.

Only REITs will be able to use the .REIT designation, which will immediately communicate that the company using it is a REIT and a member of the global REIT community. More information about this new global REIT identification program is at Register.REIT.
