NAREIT has announced the election of its 2017 officers, as well as the members of its Executive Board, Advisory Board of Governors, and Audit and Investment Committee.

NAREIT’s new Chair is Timothy Naughton, chairman and CEO of AvalonBay Communities, Inc. (NYSE: AVB). Naughton takes over from Edward Fritsch, president and CEO of Highwoods Properties, Inc.  (NYSE: HIW).

“I am pleased and honored to have the opportunity to serve our industry as NAREIT’s 2017 Chair,” Naughton said.  “Coming into this office, I have a solid foundation on which to build.  My predecessors who served as Chair have achieved a great deal on behalf of our industry.”

Naughton said he plans to continue to build awareness among all audiences for the importance of REITs as a core investment; as an economic contributor; and as an engine of job creation and growth.
