Kaua'i Housing Development check presentation
Nareit Hawai'i Executive Director Gladys Quinto Marrone, third from left, presents a $130,000 grant to the Kaua'i Housing Development Corp. represented by Tom Shigemoto, president of the KHDC board, second from right, and by Kauai county, represented by Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami, third from right. Also in attendance were Trinette Kaui, far left, and Dan Sargent, fourth from left, Kaua'i-based managers of Alexander & Baldwin. The presentation took place at the site of the home being built by KHDC under the affordable housing designation by the county's Housing Agency.

Supported by donations from REITs in Hawaii to the Nareit Foundation, a section 501(c)(3) charity, a $130,000 grant was awarded to the nonprofit Kauai Housing Development Corporation to help with the building of a new, affordable single-family home in Lihue, Kauai.

Presented as part of the Foundation’s Nareit Hawaii Community Giving Initiative, the new four-bedroom, two-bathroom home will provide a family with an interior living space of 1,465 square feet on a lot measuring 3,414 square feet. Especially appealing is that the home is located next to a park, providing convenient access to sports fields, a playground, open spaces, and community activities.

Nareit Hawaii Executive Director Gladys Quinto Marrone said: “Supporting workforce housing for families is vital to the future of our communities. We appreciate the tremendous effort put forth by the Kauai Housing Development Corporation to partner with Nareit and other entities to make this new home affordable for a family that will make the community stronger.”
