Nareit Hawaii Donation
From L-R: Alyssa Koki, Kahauiki Village Children’s Programs Coordinator; Jill Wright, Director of Philanthropy and Community Relations for Institute for Human Services (IHS); Gladys Quinto Marrone, Executive Director for Nareit Hawaii; Tony Edwards, Senior Executive Vice President of Nareit; Connie Mitchell, Executive Director of IHS; and Steve Wechsler, President & CEO of Nareit.

On Sept. 28, the Nareit Foundation presented a grant of $72,548 to the Institute for Human Services (IHS) to improve the water utility services for 129 families and 568 residents living at Kahauiki Village, an affordable housing community in Honolulu for formerly homeless households.

The grant will pay for the complete replacement of blackwater pump floats needed to maintain a clean and healthy water utility system serving the sanitation needs for the 144 affordable housing units. The project – and the Nareit Foundation’s support – became necessary due to the increase in families living at Kahauiki Village.

Nareit President and CEO Steve Wechsler presented the grant to IHS, along with Nareit Senior Executive Vice President Tony Edwards and Nareit Hawaii Executive Director Gladys Quinto Marrone.

“The commendable work being done by the Institute for Human Services and this project for Kahauiki Village shows how the support of REITs in this community are making a crucial difference at enhancing the lives of people who live, work, and raise families in Hawaii,” Wechsler said.
