Nareit’s Government Relations Council (GRC) held its inaugural REITConnect Leadership Meeting in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 6, bringing together 18 government relations professionals from Nareit member companies and Nareit staff to discuss key legislative and regulatory issues affecting the REIT and publicly traded real estate investment industry.
The meeting provided an opportunity for participants to exchange perspectives on federal and state policy developments and their potential implications for different sectors of the REIT industry. Discussions also focused on the upcoming midterm congressional elections and how the results could shape Nareit’s legislative priorities and advocacy strategies on Capitol Hill and with state legislatures in 2027.
Former House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady and former U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor of Arkansas joined the meeting to share their insights on the elections and the development of next year’s congressional agenda.
The GRC, composed of government relations executives from Nareit member companies, meets virtually throughout the year to share information and intelligence on current and emerging legislative and regulatory proposals. The inaugural REITConnect Leadership Meeting provided an additional opportunity for members to engage in person, exchange insights, and strengthen coordination on policy issues affecting the REIT industry.
