Following REITWeek 2016: NAREIT’s Investor Forum in New York, Andrew Mihno, executive director of international and capital markets for the Property Council of Australia (PCA), collaborated with NAREIT’s Investor Outreach team for a series of meetings with major East Coast and Mid-Atlantic public pension funds.

Mihno joined Meredith Despins, senior vice president for investment affairs and investor outreach, and John Worth, senior vice president for research and investor outreach, for the meetings. This was the first time the two organizations have teamed up to conduct investor outreach meetings directly with pension and retirement funds in the United States.

The focus of the meetings was global real estate investment opportunity. Mihno provided an “on-the-ground” perspective on property investment in Australia and Asia and the region’s contribution to the global real estate market.

NAREIT provided a perspective on the U.S. REIT market, highlighting important structural changes to the industry, including the recent PATH Act reforms to FIRPTA legislation and the reclassification of real estate as a new “headline sector” within the Global Industry Classification Standard.

These meetings allow NAREIT and the PCA to leverage the research and industry perspectives of both organizations to provide a unified and coherent global perspective on the real estate investment proposition through listed REITs and real estate equities worldwide.
