Nareit hosted its fourth annual in-person meeting of the Social Responsibility Council (SRC) on Sept. 10, bringing together 16 members representing a cross-section of REIT sectors.
The council engaged in practical dialogue on succession planning, the integration of artificial intelligence into the workforce, evolving approaches to social responsibility, and emerging human capital trends across REITs—issues that are shaping both the industry’s near-term priorities and its long-term competitiveness.
The meeting was convened by Nareit’s Ayris T. Scales, SVP of social responsibility and global initiatives, and featured participation from the association’s leadership, including President and CEO Steve Wechsler.
The council also recognized its 2025 co-chairs, David Alagno of AvalonBay Communities, Inc. and Ashley Coombs of Camden Property Trust, whose terms will conclude on Oct. 31, 2025. By fostering candid peer exchange and linking industry trends to workforce realities, Nareit’s SRC reinforced its role as a strategic forum where members can collectively address challenges, share innovative practices, and strengthen the REIT industry’s commitment to its people and communities.
