Nareit presented Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi with the 2022 Small Investor Empowerment Award during Nareit’s 2023 CEO Forum & Advocacy Day (CFAD).
The award recognizes public servants who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the ideals of free enterprise and economic opportunity for all Americans, which are embodied in REITs and REIT investment. It was established on behalf of all people who invest in, are employed by, or are within the community of stakeholders who REITs and publicly traded real estate companies serve.
The awards presentation took place on the first day of CFAD, and Nareit president and CEO Steven A. Wechsler noted Speaker Pelosi’s keen understanding of REITs and the benefits they offer small investors. He cited her previous legislative efforts to preserve the REIT approach to real estate investment and her work championing many bipartisan bills that have helped small investors, including the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.
Speaking at the awards presentation, Speaker Pelosi discussed her legislative efforts on behalf of all investors and the importance of REITs to the economy and the communities in which they operate.
For her work and her distinguished tenure in public service, Nareit is recognizing Speaker Pelosi’s support for the industry with this year’s award.
Last year’s winners were Senators Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Rob Portman (R-OH).
