NAREIT Corporate Member Weyerhaeuser (NYSE: WY) has been named to a list of the world’s most ethical companies for 2016.

The timber REIT is one of 131 international companies included on the 2016 World’s Most Ethical Companies list compiled by The Ethisphere Institute, an organization focused on promoting ethical business practices. It marks the seventh time that Weyerhaeuser has appeared on the list.

Companies are scored on the basis of their performance in five weighted categories:

  • Ethics and compliance program;
  • Corporate citizenship and responsibility;
  • Culture of ethics;
  • Governance; and
  • Leadership, innovation and reputation.

Timothy Erblich, CEO of Ethisphere, noted that investors and financial markets are “proving that companies that operate with transparency and integrity are better performing over the long term.”

“We fully expect the ‘integrity premium’ to grow with import as investors, employees, customers and even regulators value companies through the lens of enhanced standards of behavior,” he said.
