Ron Bohlert, director of real estate at the New York Stock Exchange, sat down for a video interview at Nareit’s REITwise: 2026 Educational Conference in Hollywood, Florida.
Bohlert discussed early 2026 trends in the REIT market and broader financial landscape. After strong momentum in late 2025 driven by AI enthusiasm, markets have cooled as investors reassess growth relative to heavy capital spending. This has pressured large tech stocks while boosting interest in defensive sectors like REITs. However, geopolitical tensions and rising oil prices have recently added volatility and dampened expectations for rate cuts.
As Bohlert noted, “All it takes is a headline of a de-escalation… that could send the market hundreds of points either direction,” underscoring today’s uncertainty.
Bohlert also highlighted the expansion of the New York Stock Exchange into Texas with a new electronic exchange, reflecting the state’s growing economic influence.
Additionally, he emphasized ongoing efforts to support REIT professionals through industry events and forums.
