Colleen McKeown, managing director and chief human resources officer at Prologis, Inc. (NYSE: PLD), participated in a video interview in conjunction with Nareit’s REITworks: 2022 Conference held on Sept. 12-13 in La Quinta, California.
McKeown was a member of a REITworks panel that looked at issues related to leading after a promotion. She commented on some of the issues that new leaders might face today compared with a few years ago. One issue is having a mix of in-office and remote workers, and how you ensure they are getting development and feedback, while also helping them to achieve their goals.
McKeown also spoke to the challenges of leaders having to manage up as well as down, as well as the advice she gives new leaders in terms of giving their employees space to grow and thrive.
“One of the top goals of any leader should be a legacy of success, whether at your own company or outside with someone else,” McKeown said. She added that “I personally have always found that when I recruit people or move them up to bigger positions at other companies, that’s a huge win.”
