Bill Staffieri, partner at PwC, participated in a video interview during REITwise 2022: Nareit's Law, Accounting & Finance Conference held in Orlando, Florida on March 23-25.
Staffieri discussed some of the regulatory and policy issues impacting REITs. He pointed out that the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) current areas of focus include climate change, human capital, cryptocurrency, SPACs, cybersecurity, proxy rules, and equity market reform.
Staffieri also discussed some of the most recent policy changes that have been enacted by the SEC, and whether any were specifically focused on the real estate sector.
Meanwhile, Staffieri also discussed some of the common themes in SEC comment letters. For REITs, the comments are particularly focused on non-GAAP metrics, he said.
