Stephen Yalof, president and CEO of Tanger (NYSE: SKT), sat down for a video interview during Nareit’s REITweek: 2025 Investor Conference in New York City June 2-5.
Yalof discussed the company’s dual focus on serving both tenants and shoppers, emphasizing its role in driving foot traffic to outlet centers. He noted that while retailers want to expand their presence on Tanger’s platform, they rely on Tanger’s marketing to attract customers. In response to concerns about product availability and rising prices later in the year, Tanger is collaborating with retailers to pull forward back-to-school shopping to late June or early July.
He also highlighted Tanger’s recent expansion into open-air lifestyle centers, having added three such properties in the past 18 months. He stressed that these centers align well with Tanger’s operational strengths.
Looking ahead, he sees the most promising growth opportunities in acquiring existing shopping centers rather than pursuing new developments, which are currently cost-prohibitive. The strategy focuses on markets where Tanger can enhance value through its expertise in marketing, operations, and leasing.
