Cathy Cantasano, executive director and treasurer at W.P. Carey (NYSE: WPC), participated in a video interview during Nareit’s REITwise: 2024 Law, Accounting & Finance Conference held March 19-21 in Hollywood, Florida.
Cantasano emphasized the critical role of employees in the success of a company. She also highlighted the unique nature of treasury functions, which encompass aspects of finance, accounting, and multitasking to ensure the smooth running of day-to-day operations.
Regarding the integration of technology into treasury operations, Cantasano stressed the importance of assessing existing processes before implementing new technologies. She noted that manual processes often need to be revamped before automation can be effectively introduced.
Cantasano also discussed an impactful initiative for the treasury function at W.P. Carey: the recent implementation of a treasury workstation. She referred to this as phase one and expressed plans to further explore the capabilities of the workstation in the coming years.
