Mary Hogan-Preusse, founder of Sturgis Partners LLC, joined REIT.com for a video interview at REITWeek 2017: NAREIT’s Investor Forum at the New York Hilton Midtown.
Hogan-Preusse managed a REIT portfolio at APG Asset Management US Inc. for 17 years before forming her own company earlier this year. In 2015, NAREIT awarded Hogan-Preusse the E. Lawrence Miller Industry Achievement Award.
Hogan-Preusse said the REIT industry is at an “interesting point” in the cycle for virtually every property type. Turning to the retail real estate sector, she noted that the speed of change is “alarming.” In turn, “interesting valuation opportunities” are emerging in the sector, according to Hogan-Preusse.
Meanwhile, Hogan-Preusse has recently joined the boards of directors of four companies. She noted that women and minorities are under-represented on REIT boards, although she said REITs are generally in “better shape” than other industries.
