March 2003 The U.S. and U.K. ratify a new reciprocal tax treaty that allows U.K. pension funds to invest in U.S. REITs without any taxes withheld on REIT dividends. This zero withholding tax treaty provision is later replicated in other U.S. tax treaties such as that with Japan.
