Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage (AAPI) Month is a moment to reflect on Asian American and Pacific Islander professionals who have an essential role in making the REIT industry more diverse and successful, and in celebration this May, Nareit is sharing REIT stories.

Alexander & Baldwin celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month by hosting a meaningful fireside chat for employees with Krystal Ka‘ai, the Executive Director of the White House Initiative for Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. The Company also unveiled a new mural designed by a Native Hawaiian artist on a recently redeveloped property in Kailua to enable Native Hawaiian descendants of this culturally significant place to tell their own beautiful stories through art.

AvalonBay Communities celebrates Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage month by welcoming its newest Associate Resource Group: Asian Pacific Associate Connection. APAX made their debut with an entertaining and thoughtful panel discussion on what it is like to be part of the AAPI community. APAX has a series of events planned this month as part of their mission to create a community for Asians and allies at AvalonBay.

Washington Prime Group Inc. ’s Keauhou Shopping Center in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, recently held its annual May Day Celebration, also referred to as Lei Day in Hawaii. This signature event featured a hula performance by the Alohi Polynesian Dance Academy and cultural activities provided by local nonprofit Pulama Na Liko.
