Free-Standing Retail REITs were the top performing segment of the stock exchange-listed U.S. REIT industry in the first two months of 2016. The segment, which primarily consists of triple net lease REITs, delivered an 11.23 percent total return.

Other REIT market segments with positive total returns in the first two months of the year were Data Centers, up  2.94 percent; Specialty  REITs, up 2.17 percent; Manufactured Homes, up 2.15 percent; Home Financing Mortgage REITs, up 1.17 percent; and Shopping Centers, up 0.62 percent.
