Single Family Homes was the top performing property segment in the Equity REIT industry for 2016 through August.  The segment delivered a 32.56 percent total return, more than twice the total return of the FTSE NAREIT All Equity REITs Index benchmark.

Close behind, with total returns of more than 30 percent, were Free Standing Retail REITs delivering a 31.90 percent return; and Industrial REITs with a total return of 30.55 percent.  Data Centers provided a total return of 28.36 percent for the first eight months of the year, and the Health Care sector delivered a 21.81 percent total return.

Other property segments that beat the index benchmark in the year through August were Infrastructure, up 17.64 percent; Shopping Centers, up 16.90 percent; Manufactured Homess=, up 16.15 percent; Office, up 16.02 percent; Specialty, up 15.42 percent; and Diversified, up 14.27 percent.

Home Financing was the top performing segment of the Mortgage REIT market.  Its 22.39 percent total return for the first eight months of the year beat the benchmark FTSE NAREIT Mortgage REITs Index’s 19.56 percent total return.
