Ten Equity REIT Property Segments Beat Index Benchmark

Ten Equity REIT property segments exceeded the 6.32 percent total return of the FTSE NAREIT All Equity REITs Index in the first five months of 2016, with five segments delivering double-digit returns. Data Centers were the top performing property sector in the year through May, with a 24.34 percent total return. Other property segments with double-digit returns were Specialty, up 21.43 percent; Free Standing Retail, up 17.01 percent; Industrial, up 14.20 percent; and Single Family Homes, which gained 11.74 percent. Other property segments whose performance topped the index were Infrastructure, up 9.20 percent; Timber, up 7.76 percent; Shopping Centers, up 7.45 percent; Manufactured Homes, up 7.14 percent; and Health Care, which gained 6.44 percent.
