Since its inception, NAREIT has diligently worked to preserve and perfect REITs by helping to shape the landmark legislation and policy decisions that have defined the evolution of REITs and real estate investment.
Speaking as the voice of the industry, NAREIT articulates its position at the highest levels of the U.S. and other governments, at state and local levels, and before numerous standards-setting organizations around the globe.
Ensuring that our members collective best interests are effectively protected and promoted remains our topmost priority.
NAREIT’s Investment Affairs & Investor Education Outreach Program has been developed to inform institutional investors, individual investors and financial advisors worldwide about the many positive investment performance attributes of REIT-based real estate investment, thereby empowering all cohorts of investors to make more informed decisions about the appropriate allocation of assets invested in stock exchange-listed REITs.
NAREIT’s outreach initiatives target key constituents in the investment decision making of both institutional and individual investors. These constituents include sponsors of DB pension plans and DC retirement savings plans; endowments and foundations; investment consulting firms that advise institutional investors with respect to their investment policies; registered investment advisors; and developers and providers of investment products.
REITs Around the World
NAREIT plays an active role in the international expansion of the REIT industry. Building on the long-term track record of REITs in the U.S., listed REITs are the primary way the world invests in real estate. Through March 31, 2015, listed REITs accounted for 80 percent of the FTSE EPRA/NAREIT Global Real Estate Developed Market Index. Including the U.S., 31 countries now have REIT legislation with more currently considering REITs.
