National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept.15-Oct. 15) is a moment to reflect on Hispanic professionals who have an essential role in making the REIT industry more diverse and successful, and in celebration over the next month, Nareit is sharing REIT stories.

AMH (NYSE: AMH) said it is celebrating the cultures and contributions of the Hispanic and Latino/a communities who enrich society by amplifying the voices of identifying AMH team members throughout the month.

AvalonBay Communities, Inc. (NYSE: AVB) said LEAD, Latinx Employees of AvalonBay for Diversity, has planned several national and regional events for AvalonBay associates during the month, including a culture day, webinar, a demonstration of how to prepare empanadas, and more.

Equity Residential (NYSE: EQR) kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month with a “Book Club and Beyond” event featuring stories from "Tales Our Abuelitas Told."

Extra Space Storage Inc. (NYSE: EXR) celebrated the month by playing the game of Loteria. Loteria is similar to American bingo, but the game boards have colorful illustrations instead of numbers. During the game, team members shared memories and family traditions, said Rosario Bibiano, Extra Space diversity, equity, and inclusion specialist.

Hudson Pacific Properties, Inc. (NYSE: HPP) highlighted the mission of its Employee Resource Group (ERG) Unidos in bringing together employees from a variety of Hispanic backgrounds, along with allies, to connect, learn and celebrate Hispanic heritage all year long.

Invitation Homes Inc. (NYSE: INVH) said its Juntos Employee Resource Group provides a space for personal and professional growth for the Hispanic and Latino members of the Invitation Homes family.

Each week during Hispanic Heritage Month, JBG SMITH (NYSE: JBGS) is showcasing an employee whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, or South America. “As you’ll see, we are tremendously fortunate to have Hispanic colleagues contributing to all areas of our business and at all levels,” the REIT said.

OUTFRONT Media (NYSE: OUT) announced a partnership with Lil' Libros, a literary-focused company founded by two Mexican American mothers dedicated to creating bilingual children's books that celebrate dual identities. In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, OUTFRONT Media is spotlighting talented Lil' Libros authors on digitals billboards across the country.

Prologis (NYSE: PLD) kicked off Hispanic & Latin-American Heritage Month with dancing at the REIT’s headquarters in San Francisco. Eileen O'Rourke-Roblero and the Employee Resource Group, HOLA, created the Zumba event to help Prologis celebrate its diversity.

W. P. Carey Inc. (NYSE: WPC) said it is supporting two organizations that seek to advocate for the Latino community through education, economic empowerment, and reform—UnidosUS and Hispanic Federation.
