REITs Shaping Communities

Rep. Scott Peters (D-CA) visited Realty Income Corporation’s headquarters in San Diego where he met with John Case, Chief Executive Officer and President.

Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-NY) visited Simon Property Group's Woodbury Common Premium Outlets in Woodbury, New York. The property, which is the largest outlet center in the world, is in the midst of a major redevelopment.

Representative Tom Reed (R-NY) (center), a member of the House Ways & Means Committee, visited Southern Tiers Crossing, a DDR Corporation property in Horseheads, New York. 

Rep. Mimi Walters (R-CA) toured The Shops at Mission Viejo in Mission Viejo, California, which is owned and operated by mall REIT Simon Property Group.

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) met with Maria Halstead, senior manager, Arrowhead Towne Center, in Phoenix. Arrowhead is owned and operated by The Macerich Company which has several major assets in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area. 

Representative Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), the highest ranking Democrat on the House Budget Committee and candidate for U.S. Senate from Maryland, met with REIT executives at Federal Realty Trust's Pike and Rose Development in North Bethesda, Maryland. 

Rep. Robert Dold (R-IL) visited the Northbrook Court regional mall, owned and managed by General Growth Properties, located in Northbrook, Illinois. Rep. Dold was briefed on the property's economic impact by GGP's Brian Lee, Caryn Torres and Jill Nolte.

Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO) visited Simon Property Group's Osage Beach Premium Outlets located in Osage Beach, Missouri, and toured the property with General Manager Jason Green. Located near Missouri's largest lake, the Lake of the Ozarks, the Center offers shoppers 110 outlets stores and is currently undergoing a major development project to replace the original roofs on each of the center's buildings. 

Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) visited a wireless tower site located near Butler, Pennsylvania, that is owned and operated by Crown Castle, a leading provider of wireless communication services across the nation. Crown Castle owns nearly one hundred wireless cell towers in Kelly's district.

Rep. Stephen Fincher (R-TN), right, visited the Wolfchase Galleria located in Memphis, TN, and met with the local management team on the property’s latest activities. Wolfchase is owned and operated by Simon Property Group (SPG). 

Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) recently visited with executives from Piedmont Realty Trust and was updated on the company’s current development projects in Georgia and throughout the country. 

Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO) (third from right) and Representative Ed Perlmutter (D-CO) (left) met with a group of NAREIT members to discuss the state of the REIT industry and the business and political climate in Colorado.
