NAREIT submitted testimony in April 2015 to the Hawaii House of Representatives' Committees on Consumer Protection and Commerce and Judiciary in conjunction with a joint hearing on a proposal related to the dividends paid deduction (DPD). The bill that was the subject of the hearing (S.B. 118, S.D. 1) originally proposed to eliminate the DPD for all real estate investment trusts in the state. Dividends paid by All Listed U.S. Equity REITs and Mortgage REITs increased 5.1% over 2014:Q4. Total dividends paid for the year as a whole increased to nearly $45 billion.
